Habibi Socotra

Day 22, Yemen, Socotra Island, Dicksam Plateau

You lie there in the middle of the seas. Dividing the Arabian Sea from the Indian Ocean. You are still untouched and covered by your wild and natural beauty. 850 different plant species, from which 260 are endemic; 140 bird species, from which 11 are endemic; 26 reptile species, from which 23 are endemic. 3650 square kilometers filled with spectacular nature. From the mountains, to the beaches and their white dunes, everything is just spectacular in the Galapagos of the East. Beautiful people living in a very simply way, often just with basic stone houses and without or only with limited electricity, without tables, chairs, beds, couches and so on. They live during the daily hours, enjoy their beautiful island, speak an own language and seem to be full of joy and happiness. I will also never forget the smile and curiosity of the children. Also my tour guide Shaiya and my driver Ebrahim will have a place in my heart. I spent a very good time with them and hope that they will take the opportunity to visit me in Europe one day. Socotra is wild and magical. Her beauty touches the perfection of every imagination I had. Habibi Socotra!
