Day 53, Thailand, Lisu Nong Tong
Day 1 of my 3 days motorbike loop. I have to learn how to ride my Kawasaki Ninja, as I never had a motorbike before. The guy from the guesthouse helped me to explain me the basics and so I started another crazy adventure. After the visit of the hippie town of Pai, I finally arrived in the Lisu village of Nong Tong. I will sleep with a hill tribe family. They belong to Lisu and have Chinese origins. To my surprise they are Christian. Hill tribes have traditional clothing and don't feel to belong to Thailand. They live here near the border to Burma and are autosufficient. A lot of animals and agricultural fields are in the village. Houses are very basics and the whole reminds me a little bit to Socotra. As simpler you live, as happier you are. In the afternoon I visited the most impressive cave of Thailand. You can go in with a Kayak and the place belongs to the hill tribe of Shan. You pay something to the Shan people and they show you the cave. I feel good in supporting traditional tribes that still live in a very modest way. It was a wonderful experience to spend some time with the Lisu family.
