Impressive History

Day 86, Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City / Saigon

I heard many bad things of the largest town of Vietnam before arriving here. Many young tourists had been ripped off within a short time here. The Saigon Cowboys are well-known thiefs that usually rip you of as follows: One man follows you and cuts the bag from your body with a little knife, in the same moment a two-men motorbike passes a long and takes the bag during the fall. They are extremely rapid. Especially during the nighttime you have to pay attention. I arrived at 4 am in the morning with all my backpack, which was not really good. A lot of people tried to get in touch with me at the busstation, but I was lucky and survived the 1'000 meters walking. I saw different people walking or sitting around with baseball rackets. I presume they are police mens. I hope so. During the day I visited HCMC. The town is much more western oriented than Hanoi. The war remnants museum was the most impressive museum I have seen during my whole life. It shows pictures of the US attacks in Vietnam. Horrible war pictures of dead people and of the results of chemical attacks, such as Napalm. This man is one of many who has suffered the chemical attacks by the US. I had the luck to have a small talk with him and take this (for me very important) picture of him. His smile is unbelievable touching.
