Day 109, India, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Havelock Island
There is no problem to get a ticket ferry on the same day, they say. The ferry leaves at 06.20, they say. Just be there at 05.00, as the harbour opens at 05.30, they say. For me these information is strange and a little contradictory. I arrive at 05.00 and there is already a huge cue. Women are waiting in front. There is a barrier and some policemen standing behind. At 05.20 the mass of people just pushes the barrier down and everybody starts to run to get a ticket. The run seems much more a run for life. They push each other and everything seems so strange and different for me. As I have no other option I run with the whole mass. I am able to get a ticket for my ferry, but it wasn't easy. Most of them run for the ticket in advance counter, which opens only at 09.00. Something like that nobody can imagine in Europe. At 05.20 you run as fast as you can so that you are standing in front to get a ticket for a ferry that leaves two days later and the counter that opens 3.5 hours later. In the queues there are also a lot of discussions and sometimes the police has to intervene. That is India!
