Day 251, Botswana, Chobe NP
Also in Chobe the roads are bad and tricky to drive. Since some days we are constantly loosing food or equipment as dishes and cups because of the roads or maybe because of the fact that we don't know how to keep our staff safe. Just some minutes after the entry gate we recognize two lion females that are next to the road, lying under a tree. It is already the second time I am spotting lions and I love to observe them. They even start to play. After our checkin at the campsite we do another round in the NP we see another lion female drinking from a river. We stop the car and get out to take some pictures, as she is on the other part of the river. A car is coming and we get back to our car. The tourist says to us: watch out because of the lion. We are thinking because of the lion that we have seen on the other side of the river and get back into our car. We pass the bush that we were standing just before and see a whole group of lions on the other side of the river. They are eating the flesh of a dead animal. We count 4 females and later on we recognize 2 males. A third male is lying on our side of the river just under the shadow of the bush of the opposite side of where we were standing before. This is the lion the tourist told us, we have to watch out. Before, when I saw the first lion and decided to get out of the car to take some pictures I was walking just next to the lion that was lying in the shadow! Lucky me. I spend hours to observe the lions eating, drinking, having discussions and lying around. Today I have seen 9 lions totally and the male that was lying under the tree even walked towards our car and turned away just next to us! What an amazing experience.
