Day 102, Cambodia, Siem Reap
Today I stand up really early to meet the Tuk Tuk driver who drives me towards the temples of Angkor. On the ride to the temples I am already sure that I will catch a better picture than yesterday. I don't like to much to visit well-known sightseeing sites, as my expectations are generally really high. This is also the case for the temples of Angkor. I hope that they will achieve my expectations. I arrive at Angkor Wat. From outside there is not a lot to see and I ask myself if the temples are much smaller in reality than what I know from the images I have seen. But as soon as you start to walk towards the temple and pass some walls the majestic structure comes forward. The sunrise is spectacular and so also the whole visit of Angkor Wat. Later on I visit different other temples during the whole day. The temple of Bayon is the most impressive temple in my opinion. I am exhausted about its beauty. All this faces built within the walls that are observing you and watching you. The whole structure is wonderful and also very well maintained. The fact that these temples are more than 1'000 years old and still so well maintained is fantastic. At 4 o'clock I decide to go on a temple that lies on a hill in order to watch the sunrise. The problem after going up is that I remark that it is cloudy and there will not be a nice sunset. The day was still extraordinary.
