Day 126, India, Tamil Nadu, Ooty
I get up at 4.30 am and walk towards the railway station of a town where more than 1 million people live. As usual I see hundreds, maybe even tousands of people sleeping on the floor around the railway station. There are so many homeless people you have to pay attention where you put your feets sometimes. While waiting for the train, I sit next to one of these homeless people. You get used to the social decline of this nation, I am thinking. You get used to most of the things that exist in this world. Maybe you can get used to everything that exists. It is part of this world. I am changing the way of thinking and the way of living while I live will all these new impressions. Arrived at the small railway station of Mettupalayam I try to catch the miniature train towards Ooty. I have only a Waiting List ticket and will not receive a place, as too many people booked a ticket. Nonetheless I can have a unreserved place. The miniature train takes a dislevel of 2'000 meters on 45 km. The ride takes 4.5 hours and we have to stop several times to cool down the engine of the Unesco World Heritage train. The ride is very bumpy, as the train is pushing all wagons. Finally arrived in Ooty I have to find an accomodation. It becomes very tricky as all Indians are here in the mountains to enjoy their summer vacations. Finally I find a room.
