Day 166, India, Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi
I walk along the Ghats of Varanasi. It is hot, very hot. There are not many people at the Ghats, because of the heat. It even becomes too hot for the majority of the touts. Still many guys try to sell you drugs. It is a holy city, they argue. They even pretend that God Shiva is the main drugs consumer and as Varanasi is the holy city of Shiva, you know,you should also at least try. Funny arguments! Varanasi is also a shitty place. I mean real shit. Shit of the holy cows lying everywhere and as the streets of the old town are very narrow it becomes a labyrinth. Especially at night you cannot avoid to walk on it as you can see where the shit lies. Varanasi is nonetheless a very special place. I love it. It has something magical. I love to walk around, to get lost, to observe the life in the old town and to observe the rituals at the Ghats.
