Back to the roots

Day 193, India, Kashmir, Srinagar

I survived another dangerous adventurous transportation and am finally in Kashmir. i took a shared jeep with one driver and 7 passengers. The road was 450 km long and it took him 15 hours for the journey. The road is not really good and the beloved driver was already tired after a ride of 5 minutes, I don't know how he managed to drive all way long with his red half-asleep eyes. In Srinagar I feel to be back to the roots, back to where I started my worldtrip, in the fascinating muslim world. It doesn't look like India, it doesn't feel like India. There is Police and army everywhere, all loaded with heavy guns. Only in Sana'a I have seen more armed forces than here. The situation seems to be quite relaxed, however. And army guys often call me to shake hands or have a chat with me. Srinagar is amazing and has a touch of Venice. Many small traditional boats are ready to bring you around the lake or to one of many houseboats. It is beautiful and people are lovely. I am really looking forward to explore more of the town tomorrow.
