Day 200, Malawi, Ruarwe

PICTURE INFECTED BY A VIRUS :-(

The day of the ferry has come and it has arrived in a very hectic way. The taxi that is supposed to pick me up isn't there. Luckily me and another volunteer are able to catch the boat by taking another vehicle and running towards the boat. There are no piers. That means that the ferry just stops in the middle of the lake and the passengers are transferred by a smaller boat towards the mainland. The arrival at Ruarwe is amazing. The whole village seem to be waiting at the beach for the new arrivals. It is very hectic and children shout around Mzungo, Mzungo! Mzungo is the word for white man. I see really big smiles and everyone wants to touch me and hold my hands. Ruarwe is a small village, seems to be very traditional and very remote. No roads, no electricity, no water supply. The highlight is the arrival of the ferry that happens once a week. The food supply is extremely limited in Ruarwe. We are a group of 4 volunteers and 4 UK students working on a Hydropower project. The lodge is amazing and we start to cook together in the basic outdoor kitchen.
