Slippery descent, rainy afternoon - Trekking Day 1

Day 143, India, Sikkim, Khcheopalri Lake

I start the multiple day trek with two french girls. We walk down towards a river. The shortcut is slippery and labyrinth-like. Sometimes we pass a house of a tribe family and we try to ask for the way. They usually don't speak English but recognise the name of the village or the place we say. In the middle of nothing I admire a family. The woman is carrying heavy loads of wood on her head. She is walking upwards through the slippery jungle. Her children come to see us and I can take several pictures. The boy suffers from malnutrition and has a huge stomach. They seem to live in very poor conditions. Arrived in a small village after several hours of walk we have a rest in a garden. The rain is coming and we cannot walk as it is a very strong rain. We are lucky to find a jeep that drives us to the Lake we wanted to reach and we also find a scary-like accomodation with lots of animals and really cold temperatures.
