Day 140, India, West Bengal / Gorkhaland, Darjeeling
I am still not able to see the highest mountain of India, the third highest of the world with over 8'500 meters. It is still a little bit cloudy. I walk towards a Buddhist monastery. It is very relaxing and peaceful. Eventually, I decide to not become a monk and go on with my walking. I enjoy visit of the tea plantations and other nice sightseeings around Darjeeling. I am even able to get my permit for Sikkim and in two days I am moving forward towards this region. At a small cafe I meet an Indian man, who is working for the UN. We have very interesting talks about issues and problems of India. It is a pitty that this country has a high rate of corruption, especially in politics. The area around Darjeeling wants to become an independent state since many years, but they are still part of West Bengal. Sometimes it is difficult to understand why some decision never happen.
